Shanghai Auto Show Set to Unveil Volkswagen's First Plug-In Hybrid and New Concept Cars
Volkswagen is expected to unveil its first plug-in hybrid (PHEV) model, based on the A-level concept car unveiled at the recent Shanghai auto show. The new model is anticipated to launch before the start of 2026.
Additionally, the German automaker plans to unmask three new-generation smart联网 concept cars during the Shanghai motor show. These include the first-ever CEEA-electrically powered car based on Volkswagen's modular e-Drive platform and the debut of a battery-powered version of the Tiguan.
According to planning, 2026 is predicted to be Volkswagen’s product year in China, with both plug-in hybrid, hybrid, diesel, petrol and fuel cell electric models set to hit the market.
The company expects to introduce three new PHEV cars in 2026, including a new G9-bay SUV based on Volkswagen e-Golf technology. The latter is predicted to be available by the second quarter of 2026.
Volkswagen and its sister brand Audi are also expected to unveil their highly anticipated PHEVs at the upcoming Auto Shanghai motor show with the former one set to offer a fuel hybridization solution that promises efficiency, speed and convenience.
