Tesla Unveils Long-Range RWD Cybertruck variant with Simplified Features
Tesla has released the long-range, rear-wheel drive (RWD) variant of its popular Cybertruck truck model on its overseas website. The new variant boasts a significantly longer range than its previously offered RWD model, but at the cost of some configurations and quality.
According to the company's latest update, the Cybertruck's long-range RWD model now has a range of 563 miles (913 km) under the hood, compared to the 523-mile marks set by the dual-motor AWD variant. The rear-wheel drive variant also comes with an impressive towing capacity of 3,402 kg (7,450 lbs), which is slightly lower than the AWD and tri-motor variants but still suitable for many light-duty transportation needs.
The weight distribution is another notable change, with an overall mass of 2,775 kg (6,142 lbs) that is lighter than the dual-motor AWD version by 234 kg. The acceleration performance is similarly impressive, albeit slightly slower, with a 0-100 km/h time of 6.6 seconds and a top speed of 180 km/h.
Key features under the hood include larger wheels in two sizes (18" and optional 20"), reduced cargo bay height to 1,779.8 mm, and fewer options overall. The interior design takes away some popular features from Tesla's recent models, including a screen in the rear seat.
By stripping down some of its more demanding components, such as air suspension for the AWD drive mode, Tesla is targeting a more 'down-market' (down-to-earth) take on the long-range RWD Cybertruck. This approach might find popularity among consumers looking for high efficiency and usability without needing top-tier or off-road capabilities.
This strategic move highlights Tesla's ability to fine-tune various models in key markets while adapting to customer preferences, paving the road toward broader acceptance of more affordable options like this longer range RWD vehicle among a wider audience.
