Volvo XC90 Gets Major Upgrade with New Design, Tech and Powers
A series of photos of new Volvo XC90s arriving in port have given us a glimpse into the design changes, advanced technology, and powerful engine options expected from the upcoming facelifted model. The update brings significant upgrades to exterior and interior design, interior features, and performance capabilities.
Design-wise, the newly designed XC90 takes on the latest family styling cues, with improved front facade featuring multi-angled shield grilles that are paired with more clean cuts design elements in lower grilles that adds an overall sleeker aesthetic.
One noticeable update is the reorientation of air intakes towards vertical placement on the side walls. The LED light clusters are designed to resemble "Thunderbolt" and continue the family's trademark look while enhancing visual movement on the front faces.
The side profile has a cohesive design language like the previous models, but with wider wheel arches that might give a slight wider impression aesthetically. Two variants observed were Star Pearl Silver & Jet Black, reflecting the updated exterior palette of Volvo XC90.
On the rear end, classic Volvo signature element remains intact with shield-like tail lights and the family logo at its center. Moving on to interior design, while it maintains familiarity with previous models. Advanced tech comes in the updated 11-inch floating infotainment display maintaining vertical orientation to provide easier readability. Air vents are also redesigned with larger dimensions.
Interior design elements now benefit from advanced materials for enhanced richness of user experience. All dashboard control inputs have been simplified making key features accessible such as direction and traction assistance, parking assist, lane leaving mitigation system and cruise control on the move.
Key driver's updates seen here include new steering wheel grips providing more ergonomic feel without over complexity. The cabin is equipped with improved comfort settings as well offering a choice between vacuum air circulation to avoid pollen while providing the option of adding an external temperature setting when they are turned off, which was not seen previously.
A highlight for the model year change is the introduction of luxury audio system, as each available model will come with the sound systems that were exclusive for high end variant. Furthermore, the interior design now also offers a smart memory function on seat positions, mirror position adjustments and steering wheel settings to save time while getting in.
Moving to specifications, powertrain variants are designed with performance considerations, starting from an updated plug-in scheme that aims at enhanced efficiency and better practicality. The electric model is upgraded with WLTP standard battery tested to sustain up to 70 km pure electric range.
In addition, Volvo will also expand its range of PHEV models, offering several options including plug-in hybrid variations powered by different 2-liter engines, like B5 and B6 in the future lineup.
