Mercedes-AMG Unveils New All-Electric GT Four-Door Coupe, Twin Motors Speculated
Mercedes-AMG has once again released teaser images of two brand-new all-electric AMG GT four-door coupes. The latest photos showcase the cars' main color scheme and distinctive features such as a no-hatch design and exaggerated ventilation openings.
The most striking aspect of these electric vehicles is the use of twin axial magnetic motors, with each motor delivering a peak power output of 496 horsepower. According to reports, two to three motors are currently being considered for these new models.
One teaser image reveals the front engine compartment's design, featuring an array of dual symmetrical air intakes that serve multiple purposes such as heat dissipation and enhanced downforce on the front axle. Additionally, orange becomes the prominent color scheme once again, consistent with the 2023 Vision One-Eleven concept car recently launched.
The second teaser image gives us a glimpse of the coupe's sleek roofline accompanied by its no-hatch design, featuring an air-intake system behind the rear window. Instead of traditional side glass, a sealed arrangement is integrated to reduce drag while optimizing aerodynamics. Furthermore, there’s an oversized electric diffuser in place at the rear that should help with stability when cornering.
These all-electric AMG GT four-door coupes will likely feature the Mercedes-AMG EA platform. They come aboard with an 800V charging system thanks to the collaboration between Mercedes and American company Sila Nanotechnologies. The most significant development, at least according to reports, involves equipping these vehicles with motors originally developed under a British venture by Yasa before being purchased by Daimler in 2021. With smaller overall volume versus traditional linear designs, lighter weight and better power efficiency make all the advantages of their application apparent.
