Wolvo XC90 hits markets with striking starting price of $47,900, offering 3- or 7-seat variants

Volvo XC90 Enters the Market with Its Latest Generation, Offering Five Trim Levels and a Variety of Powertrains

On April 15th, Volvo's latest-generationXC90 officially entered the market, offering its customers five trim levels to choose from. The prices for these new vehicles range between 63.89-89.49 million RMB, while the exclusive honor edition's prices are within the reference price tier of 47.9-67.9 million RMB.

The latest XC90 retains the same design language as its predecessor but has undergone several upgrades and improvements in various areas. For instance, the front-end features improved air intakes with a new sloping grille, while side rails have been modified for better aerodynamics. The rear design remains largely consistent with the previous model, featuring the existing trapezoidal exhaust mufflers.

The interior of the car showcases notable upgrades as well. Newer steering wheels and a 11.2-inch suspended screen replace the older units, along with an updated driver-aid center known as One HMI system, which now has greater capabilities for voice control. Furthermore, users will notice improved climate outlets for enhanced convenience during long journeys.

In terms of powertrains, Volvo adheres strictly to the two previous ones it had (petrol and plug-in hybrid), in addition to giving customers more choices in their selection process.

During this month's Shanghai Auto Show on April 23rd, the latest XC90 will have its first public outing. More importantly, official announcements revealed that newer models of Volvo S90 and X90 should enter production around May. Furthermore, it has confirmed its commitment towards hybrid and electric vehicles by emphasizing in future releases to mainly focus on such configurations.

Key Features:

  • Improved front-end aerodynamics
  • Rear design retains trapezoid layout from previous version
  • Enhanced interior details including steering wheel, air vents
  • Powertrains adhere strictly to petrol (with upgrade) and plug-in hybrid options
  • Enhanced electronic vehicle technology will continue in future releases

Competition:

Volvo is expected to remain the main contender for this category with existing rivals like Audi Q7 and Bentley's GLE. Although the prices of Chinese-market competitors such as BMW X5, Lincoln's new model, and some Japanese brands such as Lexus RX could also sway consumers when choosing vehicles.

Editor Review

The Volvo XC90 is undoubtedly an established player in China. During its second major update since inception, several features were improved upon for better aesthetics while maintaining classic charm to ensure that customers' expectations don't go unanswered.
