Audi Announces Ambitious Electric Drive Strategy, Reiterates Commitment to Hybridization
Audi has released a response statement addressing its electric drive strategy following the recent revocation of its decision to discontinue internal combustion engine production by 2033. The company now plans to maintain fuel-powered car production in the mid-2020s.
According to the declaration, Audi aims to continue offering fuel-powered vehicles attractive to customers until each type of vehicle faces its own product lifecycle. This will be accompanied by expanding and adapting their comprehensive portfolio of products across all driving modes.
"We believe that electric mobility is the future", says Audi, reaffirming its commitment to realizing its goal for a comprehensive range of fully-electric vehicles.
In the light of the global market's shifting trends which vary across different regions, Audi acknowledges and notes the specific points on each route to adoption:
- A tipping point in North America will be shifted further back than previously expected,
- and China has achieved its own tipping point already last year.
Markets face uncertainty with numerous differing factors - this need for flexibility calls upon the company to deliver product lines differentiated yet comprehensively aligned by a harmonious balance of ICE and fully-electric car types. Key development lies in both new electric and fuel-powered vehicles created using Audi's latest PPE & PPC platform technology.
Accordingly, based on our strategic plan, we are not excluding any possibilities that ensure product variety continues to meet market demands at the same time maintaining its long-term focus on full electric vehicle line-up.
Audi’s strategy thus includes a balanced selection of car types while fostering an expansion towards sustainable propulsion methods underpinned by customer needs.
