Nissan Leaf Takes the Lead in Electric Vehicle Market, Next-Gen Model Set to Debut Soon
The global sales of Nissan's electric vehicle, Leaf, have reached an impressive 700,000 units, with the latest information indicating its third-generation model is set for a release date.
According to recent announcements, the new generation Leaf will be unveiled on June 17th (local Japanese time) at 9:21 PM (Beijing Time), marking the official launch of its latest electric powertrain-driven compact SUV.
The Nissan Leaf has planned an initial launch in the third quarter, specifically targeting markets in North America.
Nissan's vision for next-generation Leaf reveals a highly stylized and futuristic exterior design. Its new front fascia features a closed grille frame combined with vibrant hues, creating an active ambience to appeal to consumers. A distinctive LED lighting system has been built into its sides, while bright colors give it a visually striking appeal.
Another highlight of the latest model includes hidden door handles, active air-grilles, and retractable tail spoiler. These aerodynamic features have improved wind resistance for enhanced performance.
Nissan has revealed some performance details about the Leaf, indicating its aerodynamics have a coefficient at 0.251 for Euro models (with brand new alloy wheels along with rear fenders), while its US version measures 0.26 in terms of air resistance due to special design adjustments. Furthermore, it boasts massive windows that switch from opaque and transparent states seamlessly.
The Leaf's latest motor upgrade has set a 160 kW power milestone as well an unprecedented peak torque value at 355 Nm units of performance. Moreover, V2X technology will make way for smart traffic assistance within 14 minutes at this driving range.
At launch, the following dynamic components could be found: rear multi-link suspension system and wheel turning radius that can reach a minimum width of about 5.3 meters.
