Audi China Unveils Audi E5 Sportback, Compact Variant of Concept Car

Shanghai, China - At this year's Shanghai Auto Show, Audi China officially announced the Audi e-tron E5 Sportback, which marks the production debut of a compact SUV variant designed for the Chinese market. The new model is part of the e-tron series and offers an exciting mix of innovative technology and sporty design elements.

Production Targets

Audi aims to start producing the E5 Sportback by 2025, with the vehicle constructed through a partnership between Audi and SAIC Motor, China's largest automaker. The new model is specifically designed for the Chinese market, featuring an 800V platform architecture, which enables rapid charging capabilities.

Design

The E5 Sportback draws inspiration from its concept car counterpart, adopting a sporty design language with notable elements such as:

• The vehicle's dimensions: length (4870mm), width (1990mm), height (1460mm) and wheelbase (2950mm) enable agile maneuverability on roadways.

Inside the car, Audi has preserved its characteristic angular design with an aerodynamic wing element across the center console, maintaining coherence with a streamlined dashboard. Although certain design cues align with its concept successor, some notable differences do exist--for instance, lack of electronic rearview mirror. Comfort zones include central support bars.

Powertrain

The e-tron E5 Sportback boasts dual electric motors, delivering maximum output of 765kW and performing acceleration from zero to 100km/h in a mere 3.6 seconds. The vehicle is mounted with a 100kWh battery pack which provides it with the capability to achieve a range of over 700 kilometers on CLTC tests under ideal circumstances. Thanks to its cutting-edge technology, it will also enable rapid charging capabilities reaching 300 km as quick as in just ten minutes when charged at 800V level.
