Volkswagen Unveils ID.2 Electric Car Prototype in Leaked Images

The highly anticipated Volkswagen ID.2 electric car prototype has been revealed online, showcasing its sleek and modern design.

Based on the MEB platform, the ID.2 is expected to enter mass production by 2026 and will start at a price of €2.5 million (approximately 20.7 yuan), making it an affordable option for consumers.

Interestingly, VW is also planning to produce even smaller electric car variants based on similar platforms that would be known as ID.1.

The ID.2 boasts a sporty and aerodynamic design, reminiscent of the timeless Polo model. A three-dimensional waistline seamlessly integrates throughout the body panels, complemented by sleek metallic wheels to create an unmistakable sense of dynamism.

Several exterior elements hint at the potential use of integrated lighting designs, including prominent front grids in the middle section of the vehicle's face which also houses LED car lights and side mirrors.

Although concept images aren't entirely clear, given past references from prototype cars, a continuous or "grille-like" style headlight design could likely materialize.

Other subtle modifications are displayed in the rear section, covering both license plate slots.

To reduce costs while preserving performance capabilities, ID.2 is set to utilize rechargeable batteries made of phosphate iron compounds and will come equipped with an ordinary high-performance motor that pushes speeds reaching max 226 horsepower but still offers reasonable distance under urban conditions around 450km/WRFT cycle (WLTP).

But it is expected that more intriguing could be the top model ID.2 GTI featuring incredible performance dynamics which leaves enthusiasts eager for a full reveal at various international and automotive conferences across several months to go ahead in 2023.
