Porsche Unveils New Roadgoing Le Mans racer, 963 RSP
A teaser video released by Porsche's official channel has offered a glimpse into the new car scheduled for its debut at this year's 24 Hours of Le Mans ahead of the June 14 date race.
The video showcases workers meticulously crafting each component - including cutting and sewing the interior trim, polishing carbon fiber front panel, and applying coats of paint - to give a sense of precision and attention to detail that often comes with high-performance vehicles like Porsche. We also see workers affix a three-dimensional symbol representing the renowned brand atop a car bonnet which has been an indispensable feature on real Le Mans cars with the aim of lightening it and improving aerodynamics, the same applied methods used during creation of GT3 RS & GT2 RS.
During our investigation of the teaser video we were able to see an initial glimpse at this brand-new model, seen from a variety of angles which gives off strong resemblance to real Le Mans car. Its shape maintains all key features - individual suspension forks, waterdrop air intakes - and seems designed for high speed running as well as aerodynamic performance.
The Porsche 963 LMDh was successfully championing the 24 Hours endurance race in collaboration with Penske motorsport during several years. Now Porsche has unveiled a new Le Mans racer which is based upon the chassis from 917, 911 GT1 and an earlier variant that already won both racing seasons in IMSA Pro/Am.
When officially showcased for its full appearance at this year’s 24 Hours of Le Mans which will start on June 14th – according to sources close off the events - Porsche's 963 RSP is seen to take form which would surpass those seen from previous Porsche production models with its improved performance levels and aerodynamics while being ready to bring down another impressive record by reaching top level in endurance racing competitions for years.
