China Unveils Plan to Promote High-Power Charging Infrastructure Development
The State Development and Reform Commission, along with three other departments, has released a notice to promote the development of high-power charging infrastructure. The notice outlines key tasks, timelines, and policies to achieve the goal of 10,000 high-power charging facilities nationwide by the end of 2027.
The plan aims to enhance the efficiency, quality, and application of high-power charging facilities, promote the commercialization of smart charging technologies, and ensure safe operation and management. The government will provide support for projects that comply with national standards and requirements.
To achieve the goal, provincial departments in charge of promoting high-power charging facilities will work together to:
- Develop specialized urban planning and layout plans
Enhancing Specialized Urban Planning and Layout Plans
Developing specialized urban planning and layout plans is crucial for implementing the High-Power Charging Infrastructure Development Plan. Provincial departments are expected to prioritize the following aspects when crafting these plans:
- Identify Priority Zones: Designate areas with high demand, such as major highways and urban centers, to focus on large-scale infrastructure development.
- Promote Sustainable Planning: Encourage sustainable planning by integrating high-power charging facilities into transportation systems, parking facilities, and other public services.
The national government has set a target of implementing 10,000+ high-power charging stations across the country by the end of 2027. To achieve this ambitious goal, provinces must collaborate with different stakeholders to create seamless networks that cater to varied consumer needs.
Encouraging Large-Scale Infrastructure Development
Promote Sustainable Development and Enhance Efficiency
To drive large-scale infrastructure development, encourage industries with strong capabilities in operating high-power charging facilities to participate in the process. This can lead to optimized layouts, efficient use of resources, reduced costs for consumers, and improved operational safety.
Standardization and Quality Control
Foster a National Standard for High-Power Charging Equipment
To ensure consistency and quality throughout the industry, it's imperative to establish clear national standards for high-power charging equipment manufacturing. This will promote cross-regional collaboration between manufacturers, suppliers, and users, facilitating easier integration of products from various regions.
Strengthening Safety Management
Emphasis on Safe Operational Methods and Compliance
Strengthen operational safety measures to minimize risks associated with high-power charging infrastructure. The government should establish clear regulations and guidelines that prioritize consumer safety while allowing legitimate commercial activities. This will foster trust among consumers in the reliability of high-power charging facilities across different regions.
Promoting Innovation and Technology Advancements
Investing in Research and Development
To drive innovation, the national government should allocate sufficient resources to encourage research and development initiatives related to:
- Efficient Charging Systems
- Energy Storage Solutions
- Secure Communication Protocols
- Smart Technologies for Improved Efficiency
