BMW Reveals Details on New i3 and iM3 Models
BMW has confirmed that the new i3 and iM3 models are set to undergo significant changes, with updated configurations and production plans unveiled.
According to insiders, the iM3 is expected to feature four electric motors, which will deliver an estimated powerhouse of over 700 horsepower. Internally, BMW's latest natural fiber composite materials research will be adopted in the new model, further improving fuel efficiency.
Production for the iM3 is anticipated to begin in March 2027 and continue until October 2034. In contrast, the all-new BMW i3 will be put into production at the end of July 2026 with an already planned six-year operational cycle finishing by October 2034.
BMW has hinted that there will be different versions available under this new model range including the i3 20 and 40 models, as well as their corresponding xDrive variations. One notable example is the upcoming M60 type M60 xDrive set to debut in March 2027.
One key differentiation between BMW's previous gasoline-powered M3 variants and the incoming electric iM3 is the expected single-model lineup under this new brand label.Besides featuring BMW's innovative natural fiber technology sourced from flaxseed, which boasts remarkable tensile strength like Kevlar yet reduces carbon emissions by 40%, designers will utilize an array of materials such as these throughout the construction of internal components.
Details on how it combines with motors remain shrouded in mystery. If BMW sticks to its speculation, the possibility exists for up to four electric motors working together to ensure the complex torque distribution desired by engineers when releasing their next car next year which might eventually be part of major marketing campaigns.
