Volkswagen Unveils Plans for IXth Generation Golf in 2028 or 2029
Audi has released details about its ninth-generation Golf, with plans to launch the all-electric model, ID.Golf, in 2028 or 2029. The new car is expected to be produced at Volkswagen's production facilities in Germany and Mexico, marking a significant shift in the brand's focus towards electric vehicles.
The IXth Generation Golf will feature a more extensive range of powertrain options, including a high-performance variant with all-wheel drive. The car is built on the company's new SSP platform, which combines elements of MEB and PPE to provide greater flexibility for future models. An electric GTI model is expected, along with an R variant that will also feature all-wheel drive.
Design-wise, the IXth Generation Golf aims to strike a balance between its classic heritage and innovative design cues. The car's exterior will retain elements from previous generations while evolving towards a more contemporary aesthetic. Software upgrades will leverage Rivian-developed architecture, improving efficiency through reduced processing requirements for on-the-go operations. Physical key switches over touchscreens are expected in common features.
