What's Best for China: Electric SUV Showdown - Model Y Takes on New Challenger, Haval 7X

Tesla Model Y and Extreme 7X: A Battle for the SUV Market

Every time the sales rankings are displayed, the Tesla Model Y is often at the top of the list. In November's sales rankings, Model Y once again took the top spot with its impressive sales figures of 44576 units. But can any other vehicle rival its success? Not quite, but there's a new challenger on the block - the Extreme 7X, which recently entered the market.

In this article, we'll compare two vehicles that are among the top sellers in their respective classes: Tesla Model Y (2024 LHD) and Extreme 7X (2025 100kWh RWD). Both cars have a similar price tag of 24.99 million yuan and will provide an interesting contrast between the two models.

Exterior Design

The comparison of these two vehicles is centered around their unique exterior designs, which stand out in terms of style and performance capabilities.

While Model Y's design has remained largely unchanged since its launch, it retains its ability to withstand mass consumption. On the other hand, Extreme 7X boasts a more distinctive appearance with rounded edges and advanced headlights for better driving experience.

However, extreme styling options require an additional 8000 yuan installment. Thus, the decision is tailored to personal preferences and budget constraints.

Wheels and Suspension

Model Y comes equipped with more contained wheel arches to minimize air resistance in order to maximize its electric range. Although not suited for everyone, this design provides the trade-off of reduced aerodynamic appeal in exchange for longer electric ranges. On the other hand, Extreme 7X sports highly dynamic wheels featuring a unique rim-and-tire package that offers better performance and an overall more adventurous vibe.

Overall Body and Interior

The contrast between these two models can be seen both on the outside with Model Y showcasing a sloping rear roofline along with its 'hidden' rear bumper. On the other hand, Extreme 7X employs a standard SUV design with no slope or hiding to the rear part of the body.

In terms of size, Extreme 7X leads comfortably as seen from various measurements and space provided inside. Therefore we look forward in sharing such interior and trunk experiences coming soon.

Range and Battery Size

Both vehicles have different charging solutions designed for the future of automotive technology.

  • Model Y is equipped with a 60kWh lithium-iron phosphate battery.
  • Extreme 7X, being part of the high-end EV lineup comes packaged with a 100kWh lithium-nickel-manganese-cobalt-bicarbonate oxide.

These contrasting batteries are expected to affect the driving range significantly. This is evident in the CLTC charging range: Model Y ranges up to 554 kilometers and Extreme 7X reaches an impressive range of 780 kilometers on electric charge alone.
