Xiaomi Yu7: A New SUV to Challenge Tesla Model Y and Other Rivals
After weeks of speculation, the highly anticipated Xiaomi Yu7 has been confirmed for release on June 26th. As an SUV from Xiaomi's automotive division, the company has set a bold stage with this new product.
Prior to its official launch, Xiaomi's president, Lei Jun, expressed uncertainty regarding the price range of the Yu7, stating that the $23.59 million starting point mentioned in previous reports is not the final price, but rather an estimate to be confirmed within 1-2 days.
So how does the estimated price compare to existing models like the SU7 and Tesla Model Y? The cost difference may seem significant at first glance: while the SU7 ranges from 21.59 million yuan to 29.99 million yuan, the Model Y's starting point is significantly higher at around $26.35 million.
Using these benchmarked values, Xiaomi Yu7 could occupy a favorable price position at 25-30 million yuan for its standard model and beyond. Meanwhile, its top-tier configuration would likely surpass Tesla's upper end with a range of over 32 million yuan.
Several officials from the Chinese electronics company have revealed more information about this upcoming SUV model. The three variants offered will be equipped with an advanced battery life: all models can reach a continuous range of 835 kilometers; with the long-tail variant the value is much higher at around 760 and 770 km, respectively.
In terms of mechanical performance, there are substantial differences: 0-100km/h accelerations will take 5.88 seconds for the lower-range model, just shy of four seconds for those in higher spec ranges while maximum output reaches over 508 kW on those upper-range models.
Here's a summary of the different model specs and expected prices:
- Entry-level variant: with the price point likely set above 25 million yuan.
- Middle-variant: with double electric drive system at higher performance level and optimized suspension due to an upgraded battery unit.
- High-end variant: with a cost likely overfacing Tesla's Model Y at top end; The car also features a large infotainment display, a semi-digital dashboard, heated seats, a wireless charging pad, as well as the ability to pair the device with Xiaomi smartphones and other devices.
The pricing strategy by the Chinese company may provide stiff competition for popular SUV models.
