Electric Automobile Industry Braces for Competition Frenzy in 2025-2027

The Chinese automobile industry is heading into a period of elimination, according to an internal memo from Geely's CEO Li Huanting. The auto giant predicts that 2025-2027 will mark the start of a competitive battle.

As prices begin to rise from January 2025, the intense competition will come at a cost. Geely warned that extreme cost control and standardized configurations will lead to more stringent battles, as companies without cutting-edge technology, full-scale R&D capabilities, or market savvy will be likely to lose their development momentum.

However, Li Huanting is confident about his company's strategy in the era of AI taking over. "For the next 10 years, it's all about the Internet Era," he said. In line with this vision, Geely aims to craft a global car company led by its own AI system.

Starting from next year, Geely plans to launch multiple newly designed models – fully equipped with Geely's AI Technology System. There will be many new products throughout the year, approximately every quarter with impactful launches that would make them recognizable in the entire market. A large portion of these products is a result of years of dedicated efforts and innovative technology breakthroughs.

Looking at the global market position, Geely said it has already entered 30 countries outside China last year alone and hopes to expand to new regions by the end December next year, eventually surpassing 60 overseas markets. "The next decade will see half of our total sales coming from overseas," Li Huanting added.

Within this period, Geely wants its Chinese high-end automobile brand to become the top export power among Chinese brands globally in New Energy.
