Skoda to Launch Magma High-Performance Brand with HEV and EREV Products Strategy
Skoda has confirmed plans to launch a high-performance brand, Magma, which will be spearheaded by current head of vehicle development for Skoda's modern car platform team, Manfred Harrer. The company aims to expand its product strategy with the introduction of HEV (Hybrid Electric Vehicle) and EREV ( Extended Range Electric Vehicle).
Harrer, who previously worked on the Taycan electric vehicle project under Porsche, as well as developing underlying platforms and electronics for BMW and Audi, joined Apple in March 2022 and contributed to its car development efforts. When asked about Skoda's Magma initiative, Harrer explained that the first production vehicle from the brand will be the GV60 Magma, which will serve as a performance bridge for the company. He emphasized this would result in more powerful cars with improved dynamic behavior, advanced aerodynamics, and thrilling designs catering to users seeking high-performance experiences.
Skoda is currently pushing forward with "digitalization of experiences" and "next-generation powertrains", aiming to cover traditional fuel engines, hybrid, electric, and plug-in-hybrid options. Notable upcoming news includes the expansion of Skoda's G90 model range by offering more driving choices. Also, the brand is working on platform-level design using next-gen electric platforms for EREV vehicles while introducing new torque vectoring systems and alternative wheel configurations to improve control during dynamic maneuvers.
Furthermore, it has been stated that Magma will utilize advanced technology available at Skoda, enhancing performance further.
