Porsche to Continue Electrification Push in China Despite Rumors of Potential Sales Discontinuation
Porsche has denied rumors that it plans to discontinue the sale of electric vehicles (EVs) in China, following widespread speculation on social media. According to a statement from the German luxury car maker, it will continue to push ahead with its electrification strategy in the Chinese market.
The company confirmed that it will accelerate the development and launch of products featuring advanced digital solutions locally suited for the country's specific needs. This includes an entirely new all-electric Cayenne model scheduled for release on the Chinese market by 2025, which was initially expected to arrive later in 2026. Ahead of the Cayenne's debut, Porsche will also introduce its first plug-in hybrid (PHEV) version of the iconic 718 model.
Next-generation Cayenne Electric will be built upon PPE platforms and come equipped with 800-volt technology. Additionally, it is expected to offer a sportier variant, Cayenne Coupé – SUV – while maintaining an available pure electric version for customers in China. Moreover, Porsche has outlined an ambitious rollout that offers the customer range of EVs along with plug-in hybrids alongside their traditional Petrol-based counterpart. This strategy will extend till 2030.
Other models from Porsche that can be observed to have already been introduced on the Chinese market include Taycan, whose electric variant currently offers as a range-topping model for those willing in pushing the speed limit to new peaks and pure electric version of Macan as well a variety or ranges with a combination blend both plug-in & non-plug hybrid versions making that offering some level versatility.
