Chinese Electric Vehicle Sales Continue to Grow in April
Beijing, May 1 — China's leading automaker, SAIC Motor, has announced its latest sales figures, showing significant growth for its electric vehicle (EV) brands across the country.
As of April 30, SAIC Motor sold a total of 50,938 vehicles under its five-branded subsidiaries, including Wey, Weihai Mingrui, Weihai Fuguo, and Higer. On a month-over-month basis, the company reported an increase of 41.3% for the commercial vehicle sales of Wey.
Within Wey's lineup, the MINIEV family saw a stellar performance in April, with 28,990 units sold, representing a 132.9% year-on-year rise. The four-door version of the MINIEV accounted for 17,604 units of the total sales figure.
Weihai Mingrui Fuguo and Higer also reported notable growth, with 13,977 and 4,861 units sold in April, respectively. Notably, the combined sales of Weihai's EV lineup surpassed 1 million units as of the end of April.
Looking at SAIC Motor's electric vehicle offerings under its Wey brand, the Wey EV accounted for 2,651 units sold in April, while the Wey Hengfa New Energy family saw 4,330 units displaced. In contrast, the sales figure for Wey Hengfa in April was significantly lower, at just 5,054 units.
With these latest numbers, it's clear that SAIC Motor remains a major player within China's burgeoning electric vehicle market. The company will undoubtedly continue to be closely watched by industry analysts and enthusiasts alike as it continues to push forward its expansion plans in the EV space.
