Volkswagen Unveils Electric Version of ID.2 GTI Clubsport
Volkswagen is planning to launch the electric version of its popular ID.2 GTI Clubsport, which will be based on the MEB Entry platform and offer improved performance, new floor pan calibration, and limited-edition branding.
The electric ID.2 GTI is expected to hit the market by the end of 2026, with a range of over 450 kilometers (280 miles) on a single charge and a maximum electric motor power of 280 horsepower. The vehicle will also feature a battery group with an energy capacity of more than 50 kWh.
The ID.2 GTI Clubsport will take its cue from the existing ID.3 performance line, which features a mechanical limited slip differential (LSD). According to officials, other upgrades under consideration include variable torque output and virtual gearshift functions. The current high-performance version of its Golf stablemate, known as the RS Clubsport, is seen here, with a 296 horsepower 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine on tap.
A sneak peek at spy shots of the ID.2 GTI reveals a distinct visual language for the new model. The front fog lamps will be arranged in a familiar family line-up configuration, complete with sealed front screen barriers. An adaptive LED logo on the front hood is likely to appear, accompanied by a distinctive airflow design.
A side-on view, meanwhile, shows that the vents are arranged vertically as before, alongside the intake system's central tunnel. Rearwards, however, we see a more dramatic departure. One can spot an active rear air dam and a smaller frontal one which suggests enhanced downforce - perhaps for when in "racing configuration". Moreover, the car carries distinctive badges such as large sport exhaust outlet on either flank which promises spirited dynamics.
As you get closer to the rear end it reveals itself through the use of a rear wing spoiler. Furthermore we observe that all trim lines' parking sensor bars, including the base model's variants seem smaller in comparison but still serve their function when fully active; this is supported by larger front LED lights and rear wheel well lights with increased intensity.
Design of interior has not been revealed yet, however some sources claim it shall maintain traditional GT style cues such as sport seats, bolstered pedals on drivers' feet and other custom components.
