Small米 group manager confirms release details for YU7
A recent post on WeChat by 小米集团 (Smallmi Group) managing director Wang Jian highlighted the company's plans for its upcoming vehicles, sparking interest among fans and critics alike.
In a series of responses to user queries on WeChat, Wang confirmed that next-generation SUV, the YU7, will make its premiere at a future car show. However, some users attempted to deduce when the vehicle might be unveiled based on previous statements from company executives.
According to Wang, the release timeline for the YU7 does not differ significantly with current predictions by other smallmi officials; nonetheless, Wang clarified that it remains unclear whether the 2025 Guangzhou-Pearl River Delta Intergroup Auto Show or the upcoming Chengdu Auto Show will be where the new car makes its debut.
Rumor mill speculation still persists among consumers, given the YU7's release timeline now set to take place within June-July timeframe. This indicates it isn't too surprising for this vehicle to occur during an event like the Chengdo show, which had multiple high-level smallmi announcements last year.
Visual appearance prototypes are already available. With design accentuating aerodynamics, elements including larger front lights positioned in upper half of headlights and airflow-optimized panels with functional directional slits found on fenders at wider areas, as well as large air curtains beneath exhaust system will be a main feature. Rear end equipped as double layered spoilers.
In contrast to their predecessors who were purely front-wheel drive models, the YU7 offers multiple drivetrain versions.
YU7's dashboard utilizes premium suede texture materials and wooden accents combined with leather upholstery – also comes equipped within advanced display system featuring digital projections on windshield rather than physical dashboard instruments. There is likely a slight overlap in functionality between two main dashboards: an external panel projecting data into the windscreen like GPS navigational, multimedia playback information to ensure more real-world situational awareness, such as weather updates while driving; along with advanced user interfaces including multi-mode steering modes.
The car's engineering specifications have been unveiled recently. It has dimensions of 4999/1996/1608mm and wheelbase of 3000mm. It serves as medium-large SUV. The vehicle maintains a running profile typical for tronc-based vehicles: the front part being longer than the rear one; hence the full length exceeds that of conventional compact sedans in Chinese market.
Inside, the exterior aesthetic translates into various aerodynamic elements around body – particularly windbreak components behind wheels and panels around large alloy rims. There will also be dual-layer air dams at back of the vehicle to optimize rear airflow.
Inside the cabin, high-resolution digital instrument cluster and multiple color display screens take center stage. The interior now is a whole lot sleeker - with less clutter due improved use of LED panels integrated into the surface while also maintaining advanced safety sensor systems that make it even safer than before.
